First time at a public charger: what to expect, step by step

26 Aug 2026 · 4 min read · EVee Buddy Team

Your first public charge can feel unfamiliar. In practice it takes a couple of minutes once you know the steps.

Before you go

  • Check your car's connector type: most cars use CCS2 for fast charging and Type 2 for AC.
  • Find a station in the EVee Buddy app and check that a charger is online.
  • Have UPI ready on your phone, or top up coins in the app.

At the station

  1. Park in the charging bay so the cable comfortably reaches your car's charging port.
  2. Turn the car off and open the charging flap.
  3. Check the charger screen or label for the gun number and connector type.
  4. Start the session: scan the QR code on the charger with your phone and pay by UPI, or start it from the EVee Buddy app.
  5. Plug in firmly until it clicks. Some chargers ask you to plug in first, then start; follow the screen.
  6. Confirm charging has started on the charger screen, your phone or your car's dashboard.

While you charge

Follow progress on your phone. Grab a coffee or a meal, but return when the session is near the end so others can use the charger.

Finishing up

  1. Stop the session from the app or charger screen, or let it end automatically.
  2. Unlock your car if needed and remove the connector.
  3. Hang the cable back on its holder.
  4. Check your receipt in the app or on your phone.

If something goes wrong

If a session does not start, try again or use another gun. If it still does not work, contact support from the app. If a session stops early, unused coins return to your balance.
