CCS2, Type 2, GB/T: a guide to connectors in India

6 Sep 2026 · 4 min read · EVee Buddy Team

Before you head to a charger, it helps to know which plug your vehicle uses. Here are the connectors you will see in India.

CCS2 (Combined Charging System 2)

The standard for DC fast charging of electric cars in India and Europe. It combines a Type 2 shape on top with two large DC pins below. Almost all new electric cars sold in India use CCS2 for fast charging. Most public fast chargers, including EVee Buddy's, offer CCS2.

Type 2

The standard for AC charging of cars. A round plug with seven pins, used for home chargers, workplace chargers and public AC points. Your car uses this socket for slower charging, and the top part of the same socket for CCS2.

GB/T and Bharat DC-001

An older low-voltage DC fast charging standard used by some early electric cars in India. You may still find it on older public chargers, but newer cars have moved to CCS2.

Connectors for two- and three-wheelers

Many electric scooters and three-wheelers use their own or light-EV connectors and lower-voltage chargers, and some use battery swapping. India has also developed a light EV charging connector standard for this segment.

CHAdeMO

A Japanese DC standard. It is rare in India.

Heavy vehicles

Electric buses commonly use CCS2 at higher power or pantograph charging at depots. The Megawatt Charging System is emerging for heavy trucks.

How to check

  • Look at your car's charging flap or owner's manual.
  • In the EVee Buddy app, filter stations by connector type.
  • At the station, check the label on each gun.
